Healthcare Engineering
Our EPES Healthcare Engineering Division provide Technical Engineering Consultancy services to Hospital Management and Administrators, Healthcare Providers, Operators and Asset Management staff at Local District, State and National levels.
“ EPES specialise in trouble-shooting new and existing Hospital and Healthcare Facilities, working with Health Infrastructure and Local Health Districts to develop solutions for major rectifications, refurbishments and upgrades ”
Hospital and Healthcare facilities are governed by National, State and Local Guidelines, Standards and Codes which must be strictly adhered to in order to deliver safe and reliable assets.
We understand the interrelationships between Clinical Operations and pragmatic services system design in Critical Clinical Environments.
Key Considerations for Hospitals, Aged Care or Healthcare Facilities
1. 24/7 Availability of Services Systems
2. Asset Management Systems and Maintenance
3. Compliance with Regulatory Building Code Requirements
4. Consequences and Risks of Critical Clinical Areas
5. Funding and the application and Reporting process
6. Futureproofing, through identifying true service life of Assets
7. Safety of Staff, Patients and the Public
8. Simplifying Commissioning Processes
9. Sustainability and Energy Efficiency
10. Understanding the Challenges of Maintainability in large Complex Buildings

- Pressurised Rooms - Isolation Rooms and Operating Theatres
Critical Temperature and Humidity Reliability
- Constant Operation
- Critical Clinical Spaces - Operating Theatres, Sterile Store and CSSD
Prevention of Extensive Mould Growth Within Critical Clinical Areas
- Air flow
- Cleaning and Disinfection of Critical Clinical Spaces and Systems
- Temperature and Humidity Control
Prevention of Airborne Pathogens and Bacteria
- Humidity Control
- Pressure Cascade Prevention
Compliance
Compliance requirements are wide and varied, EPES offer extensive Compliance Audits that define and articulate specific compliance requirements at the initial stages of each project, that include:
- Australian Health Facility Guidelines (AusHFG)
- Building Code of Australia and Australian Standards
- Engineering Services Guidelines (ESG)
- Requirements at time of construction vs current requirements
- Technical Guidelines published by Industry Associations such as IHEA, AIRAH and ASHRAE
AIRAH Special Technical Group Committee Representation
EPES are represented on the Technical Committee for the AIRAH Special Technical Group – Infection Control & Operating Theatre HVAC Design.
EPES regularly attend meetings with Hospital and Healthcare facility management and other stakeholders to provide guidance on non-compliances to enable clinical staff to assess and quantify risks to staff, patients and the public.
Our engineering team assist management and other stakeholders at any or all of the 3 following stages:
Stage 1. Initial Assessment – An initial assessment is the critical first stage, Hospital and Healthcare Facility clinical staff and stakeholders are engaged in a consultation process where a decision is made to address non-compliances and rectify critical rooms and areas.
Stage 2. Detailed Design Process – Where each of the compliance requirements are addressed and design documentation is prepared to understand the level of interruption and construction cost budget.
Stage 3. Management – Working closely with contractors and Hospital and Healthcare Facility management and staff to effectively manage construction works to ensure compliance objectives are achieved, with sign off reports and final as-built documentation.
